DESTINATION
Athens – transformed by the 2004 Olympic Games
The city of Athens and the surrounding Attica region have become an attractive world meeting destination since the successful organization of the 2004 Olympic Games. The Games brought some welcome improvements to Athens and the ancient capital has reclaimed much of its former beauty. The city's transport infrastructure was completely modernized making travel around the city more efficient. The international airport Eleftherios Veizelos, opened in 2001, is located just 20km east of Athens. It features state-of-the-art facilities for the comfort and security of 16 million passengers a year and is linked with Athens by a recently constructed motorway. Numerous new or improved convention centres are now available in the region: for example, the Metropolitan Convention Centre with up to 5,400 capacity in plenary session which emerged from the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex.
The new Worldmeetings Greek partner “Frei S.A.” benefits from over 20 years of experience in locating meeting venues anywhere in Greece and in organizing conferences, events and supporting programmes, whether it be a medical congress for several thousand delegates, a new product launch, a treasure hunt incentive on the slopes of the Acropolis or a sailing tour on the Aegean. The warm temperatures nearly all year round and unique archaeological attractions make Athens an exciting and reasonably-priced meeting and incentive destination and you can bank on receiving a warm welcome wherever you go.
Meeting and incentive enquiries for Greece can be made to info@frei.gr, tel.: +30 210 3215600 and from August 2007 onwards, online via www.gr.worldmeetings.com.
